My career began in community counselling agencies across York Region, where I worked with individuals, couples, and families, and provided addictions counselling. Those years gave me a strong clinical foundation. I trained across a wide range of community treatment programs, worked with people from many backgrounds, and spent many years supervising and mentoring the next generation of therapists.Over time, I noticed a recurring pattern. Many of my clients understood their struggles clearly and worked hard to change, yet they still felt stuck.
Underneath, unresolved trauma was keeping their nervous systems locked in survival mode, in states of anxiety, shutdown, or hypervigilance that insight alone could not reach. This led me to the growing field of neuroscience and body-based trauma treatment. I pursued advanced training in approaches that work directly with the nervous system and the brain, including somatic therapy, EMDR, clinical hypnosis, and neurofeedback.
These methods help the body learn that it is safe again. When the nervous system settles, old patterns can loosen, and lasting change becomes possible.Today, with more than twenty years of experience in mental health, I serve as Clinical Director of Newmarket Therapy Centre and Aurora Village Therapy & Wellness Centre.
My work brings together the depth of relational psychotherapy and current understanding of how the brain and nervous system heal.
